Please note that the COVID-19 virus is currently affecting agencies’ ability to obtain records and deal with applications under the Right to Information Act 2009 and the Information Privacy Act 2009.

Before you make an application, we recommend you contact the relevant agency.

Request an internal review

An application for internal review must be in writing and made within 20 days of the date of the notice of the decision. Your application for review must include:

The information you provide on this form will be used by the agency you have applied to, to deal with your application as set out in the Right to Information Act 2009 or the Information Privacy Act 2009.

If you have applied to a department or Minister under the RTI Act only: Once the department or Minister receives a valid RTI access application, the date you applied and what you are applying for will be published online in their disclosure log. If the department or Minister gives you access to a document, and if the document contains no personal information about you, the document will be published online in the department or Minister’s disclosure log, along with your name and, if another person, company or body will use or benefit from the documents sought, the name of that person, entity or body. The department or Minister may remove some information from the document before it is published — for example, information that may be defamatory.

Internal review process

There is no fee or charge for an internal review. A person at least as senior as the original decision maker will reconsider your application. A new decision will be made within 20 business days and you will be provided with written reasons explaining the decision.
